• GIGS: The annual Druid Halloween Party returns on 10/31

The Halloween party at The Druid is one of the best around. This will be the fourth one I’ve done, and I wouldn’t want to be working anywhere else that night. It’s on Halloween proper (10/31), which falls on a Tuesday this year, and it’ll still get jammed up despite the mid-week slot. Best part for you: there’s a $300 cash prize for best costume, and it gets pretty damn competitive too. It’s also a solid dance party. They take out any piece of furniture that’s not nailed down. And if that’s not enough … there’s no cover. Get there early and stay late.

  • Riverside BBQ Series returns for last session of 2017

My focus is heavily into DJing these days, but I do still organize & promote a handful of live music and food-driven events, and the Riverside BBQ Series is my baby. The third and final session of 2017 (and sixteenth over the past five years) is on Sunday, October 8 and will feature chefs from The Abbey (Cambridge & Brookline) & CK Pearl (Essex), plus live music from the Bad Rabbits (acoustic & DJ set), Gold Blood & Associates, and the series’ house DJ, Ryan Brown. It’s like a backyard BBQ on steroids, and a pretty good deal too.

The Riverside BBQ Series matches New England’s most creative chefs (including multiple James Beard Award Winners) with local craft brewers and awesome bands all in a beautiful setting along the Charles River. It’s a pop-up kitchen, intimate concert, and mini beer festival all rolled into one all-inclusive experience.

All-in tickets include BBQ from the chefs and beer & wine from our seven beverage sponsors. More info is below!

  • New Residency: Off the Wall Mondays at Bella Luna/Milky Way

I am looking forward to adding Bella Luna & the Milky Way in Jamaica Plain to my residency list for the fall (in addition to Thursdays at the Druid and Fridays at Foundry on Elm). I’ll be DJing every Monday starting on September 18th. And for my 9-5 friends, this one is totally for you. I’ll be spinning a vibey afterwork set from 6 PM to 8 PM before the bar rolls into trivia. I am usually a night owl so I don’t mind the early set either, especially coming in hot  off the weekend. I have a feeling this’ll be the spot where I can try out some fun things and dig deep into the crates. There’s something in the water in JP that makes disco, deep house, and funk feel just right.

  • Brass Union’s September DJ Schedule

I have the great honor every month of curating the DJ program at Brass Union in Somerville. We strive to let the DJs do their “thing” here, meaning you won’t always hear the obvious hits (I’m talking about you “Despacito”) and the night is a real musical journey in the hands of the selector. All vinyl nights are still even a thing here, usually on Wednesdays and Fridays (be sure to check out “Union Funk” with Disgonuts on Friday 9/8 or “The Groove” with Paul Foley and Saucy Lady on Friday 9/15 to see what I’m talking about).

I’ll be spinning on Saturday 9/16 from 10 PM to 2 AM and the first brunch set of the fall on Sunday 9/24 from noon to 3 PM. Click on the poster below for the full schedule!

  • Twice as Nice at Night Shift in August

After a few months off, I am excited to return to Night Shift Brewery not once, but TWICE in August. First up will be Thursday, August 10 followed by Friday, August 25. Both sets are from 8 to 10 PM. The beer here is as good as it gets, seriously, and the summer vibe is just right for a mix of funk, boogie, and throwback hip hop jams. They have quite the patio setup too, complete with corn hole and a rotating cast of killer food trucks.

  • Gigs: Fresh Produce at Good Life in August

I am looking forward to sharing the decks with the legend DJ Madsol-Desar at Good Life on Saturday, August 26 at Fresh Produce. The celebration of all things good & hip hop has been going down on the last Saturday of the month for 11 years now! Yeah, that’s a serious run, and the party has seen the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Pete Rock, Tony Touch, & Kid Capri. It goes without saying that it’s an honor to be able to spin some tunes on this night.

Fresh Produce at Good Life (28 Kingston Street, Boston, MA)Saturday, August 26, 2017 – 10 PM to 2 AM – Featuring J-Wall & Madsol-Desar upstairs plus Guru Sanaal & Liz Ladoux downstairs.

File under: party jams, trap, reggae, hip hop

For more info check out Good Life’s website.

  • GIGS: Beyond Walls Rock the Block in Downtown Lynn

The City of Lynn has been buzzing of late thanks to the Beyond Walls Mural Festival, which brings 15 new stunning murals to the downtown Lynn area. I’ve been tracking this on social media the last few weeks and cannot wait to see it in person (and spin some tunes at their block party on Saturday 7/22). I am hearing the DJ booth will be “quite the spectacle” from organizers: a DJ tower, complete with artists painting live below. I’ll be spinning from 7:10 to 8:05 PM, but the party is going on all day and includes two stages. It’s totally free to attend and the weather is looking pretty solid (86 and Sunny) as I write this post. For more info, be sure to check out Beyond Walls on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

  • J-Wall & DJ Big Lebowski spin LHBC’s Second Birthday Party

DJ Big Lebowski and myself will be spinning sets at Lord Hobo Brewing Company‘s Second Birthday Party on Saturday, June 17. I’ll be setting the early vibe from 5 PM to 7 PM with funk & soul grooves plus some smooth classics. I figure I’ll let people get comfy and into their beers before Lebowski rolls in and drops those throwback party jams & new joints that don’t suck. He’ll spin till 10 PM.

There will be a ton going on while we spin and obviously some seriously good beer will be for the gettin’, including all the heavy-hitters and deep cuts from Lord Hobo, plus guest taps from: Castle Island Brewing Co., Night Shift Brewing, Wormtown Brewery, and Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers. There will also be food from Pizzamoré Flatbread Co.  and The Porch Southern Fare.

Entry is free and dogs are totally welcome. For more info, check out the event on Facebook.

  • Gigs: Boston Magazine’s Best Fest at City Hall Plaza

I’ll be joining DJ Ryan Brown and DJ Frank White to curate the vibes at City Hall Plaza for Boston Magazine’s Best Fest on Tuesday, July 18. RB and Frank are two of my favorite DJs around town (& beyond). Both have always been quick to share valuable knowledge and have literally paved the way for everything I do. So yeah, it’s a huge honor to be able to spin with them, and we are all amped up to bring the goods.

Best Fest is one of those events you simply don’t sleep on. In addition to our sultry offerings of funk, boogie, and other sonic gems, a ticket also includes complimentary food from Best of Boston winners and those previously featured in Boston Magazine. There’s some serious talent on the food side of things too. Spots like Uni, Neptune Oyster, & Waypoint are no joke.

Both GA and VIP tickets are available at http://www.bostonmagazine.com/bestfest!

  • Gigs: Aeronaut Brewery Summer DJ Residency!

Starting in June, I’ll be spinning the first (ish) Saturday of the month this summer at Aeronaut Brewery. That includes June 3, July 1, August 5, and September 9.

Over the past year I’ve DJed at the brewery, which is located just outside of Union Square, Somerville, at least handful of times. It’s always pretty jammed, but it’s a huge room so there’s never an issue finding a solid space to chill or dance (or play Connect Four).

Each time I’ve worked the room I’ve noticed the vibe has gotten livelier and more accepting of a DJ. Usually anything flies here, sometimes I’ll go on an indie or alt-rock run, and then other times it’s house classics for a while. Lots of throwbacks, and of course funk & soul will make the cut too.

I strive to stack the deck with my favorite remixes and covers when I spin at breweries, like this one of Little Roy doing Nirvana (Remixed by Alkalino). I think it keeps people on their toes and gives ’em something they wouldn’t usually hear at bars or clubs.
